Fidelity Theory turns digital fidelity into a creative control. One knob carries two axes: sample rate and bit depth travel together in opposite directions, and every position on the dial is a specific coordinate of the two. Turn it clockwise and the sample rate falls while the bit depth climbs. Turn it counter-clockwise and the sample rate climbs while the bit depth falls. There is no neutral point anywhere in the travel, and turning it down does not move you toward the dry signal, it trades bandwidth for grit.
Around that one control sit two decisions. COIL is the converter voicing, IRON or WORN, always in circuit and always ahead of the maths, so the color you pick is baked into the grit rather than sitting on top of it. RING is the aliasing stage at the end of the chain, folding everything above the fold line back into the track as inharmonic metallic digital grit. Level is matched across the whole sweep, so what you hear change is character, never volume.
One knob, one switch, one button. No pages, no second layer, no menu diving.
COIL, then bit depth reduction, then sample rate reduction, then RING, then level matching. Converter color first, so COIL changes what gets degraded. RING last, so it folds whatever the rest of the plugin has already made.
Not a bitcrusher with two knobs asking you to find the pair yourself. Not a sample rate reducer with a cutoff. Not a tape or vinyl plugin. If you need to remove a specific frequency problem, an EQ is the right tool. Fidelity Theory is for what the whole thing sounds like it was recorded into. It sits on drums, loops, samples, keys and vocals, and works on a full mix or a drum bus in small amounts.
